Kimberly
Kim was diagnosed with AML Leukemia on July 22, 2009, just after she finished high school. She'd been feeling well, just showing a few bruises when she went to Primary Childrens Medical Center for a heart surgery to fix a relatively minor condition she's had since she was born. A blood test before the surgery showed that her blood had been completely taken over by the cancer. They admitted her that day and began treatment right away. She went through five long rounds of chemotherapy, doing relatively well, with the exception of one infection that led to a very scary stay in the Pediatric ICU. She spent almost all of that time in the hospital, with just a few breaks to go home. By the end of March 2010 she was allowed to go home for good- officially in remission! She was so excited to finally go to USU Fall semester, and got strait A's in all of her classes! Psychology, Humanities, Family Finance and ANATOMY. Not a week after finals, at a regular check up at PCMC, her blood tests showed that her cancer was back. And thus began round two- Kim's goal was to make it to a bone marrow transplant. We had found a donor, so all that was left was to get her in remission once more. After three rounds of chemotherapy, her body was no longer strong enough to keep fighting, no matter that her spirit was. She will always be with us. 7:48 pm, March 31, 2011

Sweet Little Kim and family,
ReplyDeleteI haven't stopped crying all day since I heard about Kim. I'm so very heartbroken and sorry for all that you are going through. I wish that we were in the hospital right now so I could just hold your sweet mom and cry, like we've done before. Please know that though we haven't known you long, we love you so much. You are branded in our hearts. We love you and will continue to pray for Kim and for all of you.
Heather Brown and Lillie
Sending hugs to all of you. I will try to stop by tonight.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry. Kim and your family are in my prayers. Stay strong Kim...
ReplyDeleteLoves, Leslie
I passed Julie in the halls a few times and we were down the hall neighbors and then kiddie corner neighbors (almost sharing windows! :)) and I've been keeping tabs on Kim's progress for a little while here (our 3.5 year old, Elena, has ALL and we've been in and out of the hospital for treatments a lot the last couple of months). Autumn posted on her blog about this latest development. Our hearts are broken for your family. We're so sorry. Although we haven't met Kim in person, from what we have seen on this blog, she looks like a beautiful, wonderful, vibrant, strong woman. It kills me that her fight with cancer is taking this turn - she has been through so much! Kim and your family are in our prayers. I'm headed to the temple tonight and I will put your family on the temple roll, as well.
ReplyDeleteMuch love to you from a fellow cancer family,
Briana, Eric, Elena, and Lily Hoffman

We love you. I'm praying for you all.
ReplyDeleteI just heard the news, we are so sorry. Lots of tears shed tonight. I know we've never met, but we feel like we know Kim. AML is so unkind. We mailed a letter to Kim 2 days ago, I hope they forward it on to your family. We love you! We will continue to pray for your family as you heal from this major life trial.
ReplyDeleteKim and family...we continue to pray for you and love you so much!
ReplyDeleteWe have added y'all to our pray line.

ReplyDeleteKim and family ~
ReplyDeleteI love you dearly.
I have no words [can you believe that?]
But I have prayer and faith. And sometimes, just sometimes, that has to be enough.
Gentle (((hugs))) and much love ~ Mary Goodlad
We were so sad to hear the recent update on Kim! We came by last week and met Julie for the first time. Our daughter Rachel has battled AML. She's only a couple of years younger than Kim. We follow your blog faithfully and pray continually for Kim and your family. I know that Kim is a fighter. I also know that Heavenly Father is watching over her and your family during this difficult time. We love you all!
